UPDATE – Thursday 30/01/2025: Head Cancelled

It is with great regret that I have to inform you that the organising committee have been forced to cancel Peterborough Head on Saturday.

Following rainfall on Monday/Tuesday the river has risen to levels at which boating is no longer safe. After consultations with the Environment Agency it is clear that river levels have not yet peaked and there is no possibility that they will fall to safe levels by Saturday. This is particularly galling as the weather forecast is generally very good with light winds and sunshine.

I know that you will be disappointed by this news but I hope that you have received it before you have loaded boats etc in preparation.

Refunds of entry fees will be given in accordance with our policy as stated on the event poster. As soon as we know what our abortive costs are then appropriate refunds will be made.

Thank you for your support and we hope to see you in the summer at our regattas here in Peterborough.

UPDATE – Wednesday 29/01/2025: River Conditions

The organising committee of Peterborough Head of the Nene is monitoring river conditions as recent rain on Monday and Tuesday has caused levels to rise significantly.

We will be checking river conditions again on Thursday and predicted river flows in the lead up to Saturday.

We will provide an update by 18:00 Thursday 30th which we expect will be a final decision on the running of the event.

 

 

About

Peterborough Head of the Nene offers 3 divisions of racing, with events over the long (5,000 metre) and short (2,600 metre) courses.

Unlike other events at Peterborough, the Head of the Nene is run from The Embankment near the City Centre rather than the Clubhouse. This allows us to boat more crews at once and gives crews a shorter row to the start.

Entries will open at 20:00 on Sunday 8 December 2024 and close at 12:00 (noon) on Sunday, 26 January 2025, unless earlier due to oversubscription.
