Bea Gregory Secures Outstanding 5th-Place Finish at Demanding GB v France J16 Trials

Bea Gregory delivered a standout performance at the British Rowing J16 Selection Trials in Nottingham, placing 5th out of 14 elite competitors. Competing a full year above her actual age group, she went into the event to gain crucial pathway experience and emerged with a highly impressive top-five finish against older, more experienced athletes.

Horrendous Conditions Force Course Changes.

The historic GB v France J16 Match serves as the initial tier of the prestigious British Rowing Olympic Performance Pathway. It offers the nation’s top under-16 talent their very first chance to represent Great Britain and secure a coveted national vest.  However, the athletes at the National Water Sports Centre were met with horrendous weather conditions. Brutal headwinds and rough water made handling incredibly difficult. As a result, officials were forced to overhaul the traditional race format. The standard 1,500m time trial and subsequent side-by-side finals were completely scrapped. They were replaced by a shortened, safety-focused 1,000m time trial.    Despite battling a shorter distance and unforgiving elements, Bea maintained excellent composure to claim 5th place in the 14-boat field. With Bea rowing up an age category this summer she remains eligible to trial again next year
