Nottingham City regatta and Nottingham Masters and Club regatta

Peterborough crews had a successful weekend at Nottingham returning with 5 wins and 5 second places.

On Saturday they competed at the Nottingham City regatta which was held over 6 lanes at the National Watersports Centre’s 2 kilometre rowing lake.

Ellie Cooke and Harriet Drake-Lee won their Women’s double final by 10 seconds ahead of Upper Thames Rowing club. They also raced their double again in the afternoon where they placed first in their heat then second in their final, just 2 seconds behind Twickenham Rowing Club.

Ella Darrington and Devonne Piccaver were also successful in the Women’s J18 doubles, placing first in their heat then first in their final by an impressive lead of 8 seconds ahead of Nottingham Rowing Club. Darrington also competed in the Women’s J18 singles and finished in third position.

There was more racing on the Sunday at Nottingham Masters and Club Regatta which was over a shorter 1000 course, again taking place at the National Watersports Centre (Holme Pierrepont).

Ian Palmer took home 2 medals after winning the Masters D single, just 0.4 seconds ahead of Warwick Rowing club in a nail biting race. He then joined forces with Dave Smith from Leicester Rowing club to win the Open Masters C doubles, just 1 second ahead of Abingdon/Warwick Rowing Club. They also raced in the Open doubles category where they finished in second place.

The final win came from Sarah Watson, Claire Widdowson, Gina Gould and Keely Watson in the Women’s Band 1 coxless quads. They crossed the line 4 seconds ahead of Newark Rowing club.

Second places came from Al Ryder, Rob Dennis, Steve Tuck, Chris Elder, Damen Sanderson, Jaish Mahan, Jack Ward, Keith Blackman and cox Erich Knowles-Pardoe (Masters D eight); Joan Heath and Anita Carter (Women’s Masters F doubles) and Kate Read in the Women’s Master’s B single, just 0.1 seconds behind Cantabrigian Rowing Club in a photo finish final.
