Harriet and Lucy

Peterborough City Rowing Club’s juniors made the most of home-water advantage, securing a haul of medals at the Peterborough Junior Championships over the weekend.  The event, held on the purpose-built four-lane rowing lake at Thorpe Meadows, drawing young athletes from across the UK to battle it out across a 1,000-metre course. The host club dominated several flagship events, walking away with two golds and a bronze amidst fiercely competitive fields.

Golden Doubles

The standout performances of the weekend came from the club’s J15 double sculls. In the Women’s J15 2x category, the duo of Harriet Barber and Lucy Agyapong crossing the finish line first and secure a well-deserved Gold medal.  Matching their golden standard, the J15 2x crew of Thor Read Moreira Lima and Jack Bosma also rowed a stellar race, leaving their opponents trailing to claim Gold in another spectacular display of local talent.

Podium Success and Grit

The club’s medal tally rose further thanks to Krishiv Panya and Eddie Miller Keel, who fought hard in the Open J14 2x event. The pair showcased exceptional stamina and chemistry to cross the line in Bronze medal position.  Having navigated a tough qualifying round Hugo Letman in the J14 1x produced a commanding performance to win the C Final.  Meanwhile, the J15 2x crew of Ryan Britto and Ben Ellingham showed immense determination on the water, putting in a valiant effort but just narrowly missing out on a spot in their final.

End of an Era

While the junior squads celebrated on the water, the weekend also marked a poignant moment of transition for the club. Long-standing servant Natalie Ansell-Crook announced she is stepping down after seven years of dedicated leadership and service. Her departure marks the end of an era for the club, having been instrumental in supporting the development of the junior pathways that produced this weekend’s champion rowers.
