Peterborough City Rowing Club’s Masters 8 opened their account for the season winning the Masters D (over 50s) event at Teddington Head of the River on Saturday.

They beat the field of local crews over the 5200m upstream Thames course between Hampton Court and Kingston with an impressive time of 17mins 50secs.

The crew of Al Ryder, Rob Dennis, Ian Palmer, Jack Ward, Steve Tuck, Jaish Mahon, Stuart Holmes, Keith Blackman and cox Ericha Knowles-Pardoe will be in action again in two weeks at the Newark Head of the River.

York Small Boats Head also took place at the weekend and a few Peterborough crews travelled to compete over the 3000 metre course on the River Ouse.

The Masters A coxless quad of Keely Watson, Hayley Shipton, Emma Byatt and Gemma Singleton were just 1 second away from winning the Women’s Masters coxless quad event, however the Masters D crew from Tees Rowing club took the title.

Chris Elder also just missed out on a win in his Masters A single. He was just 10 seconds from winning the event but he missed out against the York City sculler who received a 60 second handicap.

Sarah Watson finished second out of 6 crews competing in the Women’s single event, a York University sculler took first place.

The Band 2 women’s quad of Claire Widdowson, Michelle Moulding, Emma Byatt and Gina Gould had a good row and finished 3rd in their event. They raced again in the third division where Tazmin Jones took Byatt’s place, and they finished in fourth position.
